Make your own Drum

by Thela Foxgood

We were short on drums at our last drumming class so our teacher brought a handmade drum. She used a heavy-duty cardboard cylinder, drew designs on it, and covered both ends with clear packing tape.

This was one of the drums used in our last class.

Drums were played for almost every occasion in Native American society. A common drum that was used, (this might be familiar to anyone who played cowboys and Indians when they were a child), is the frame drum.
