Making Sense of the Messy Middle

A friend recently taught me how to make a Dream Catcher and I finally finished it! At first, it looked like a ill-formed mess of nothingness – but then it grew to have shape and meaning. It’s kind of like life sometimes… how we can take what seems to be a mess, what looks like ashes, and keep working with it until we find the meaning and beauty.

Thank you Dory 😊

I used to make and sell dream catchers when I was younger. I love the way you did your webbing. Is it layered? I have 8 of them hanging above my bed. I know. A bit of an over-kill, but they’re arranged nicely. 🙂

Thank you! I had so much fun seeing that turn into something! I don’t know about layered… I just wove it until I liked it. I’m sure your display looks great. Why go half way if you enjoy something? 😊☺️😊

        For Whom It May Concern:

It is believed that dream catchers originated with Asibaikaashi who was known as the Spider Woman. She was a custodian of all the infants and the adults. It became a difficult task for her to take enough care of all the Ojibwe people as they started spreading geographically even to the hooks and crannies of North America.

The spider web charm, or dream snare, is an interesting bit of Ojibwe culture isn’t it!? It gives a whole new meaning to “Spider Woman”! “Say what!?” for sure! Thank you for the story! ☺️🕸☺️
