    Toad’s Shade

    Black nightshade berries and flowers

    🌿Cee’s Flower of the Day – FOTD🌿

Solanum americanum, or Black nightshade, has family members we know well, such as tomatoes and eggplants. It has been called Garden nightshade, American black nightshade, Common nightshade, Petty morel, Glossy nightshade, Apple of Sodom, Small-Flowered nightshade, Common purple nightshade, Hound’s berry, and The Black Toad. This plant has, many times, been synonymously referred to as Solanum nigrum. Like other humble-looking garden plants such as the dandelion, its leaves provide shade for garden toads.

    Misconception

This plant has been confused with the black, berry-producing plant called belladonna (also used as medicine – such as in homeopathic remedies), which is very poisonous and often called, “deadly nightshade”. While there are very toxic nightshades, the ripe, Black nightshade berries and young greens have been used for food. Also referred to as, Wonderberries or Sunberries, they have been made into sauces and jams and the plant is also considered to have medicinal properties. *The green berries can be toxic.

“Do not mistake the deadly nightshade for this, if you know it not, you may then let them both alone.” – – Nicholas Culpepper

    Noticing the Difference

Belladonna berries, and the bracts (calyx) at the base of the berries, are much larger on the Deadly nightshade than on the the Black nightshade plant. Photos showing the difference between the Black Nightshade and Belladonna. The flowers of the belladonna are also different than the Black Nightshade.

Of course, when in doubt… do not eat unknown berries or plants. The ripe, Black nightshade berries from my picture were sweet but we didn’t dare eat much from it until we read more about the plant.

    Balancing all we Do

Inner peace is a keeping of balance. There is joy in having enough time to do things quietly and without hurry.

What is one thing I can take my time with today to really enjoy?

    Beat the Heat

Stay cool my friends, love Pilgrimage Studio

Day turns into night. Then the sun rises again, and the world turns and turns through seasons and time. The days turn into a year and counting.

We find ourselves in a very different world from the one we were experiencing a year ago. Who could have imagined a year ago that the most common rear-view mirror hanger in cars would be a mask?

This heat is familiar though, and so from my archives, I share some cooling techniques from an article posted on May 23, 2019.

    Timeless

    Black-Eyed Susan
    Summer Blooms

What are the best memories made of? Is it campfires and s’mores? What about that fishing trip or family vacation to the beach. Topping root beer with vanilla ice cream and watching the foam rise. Sitting quietly within nature’s gallery for a spell? Screaming and laughing down a steep ride at an amusement park. Grandma’s blackberry pie – and fried chicken. Waking up to the smell of fresh-brewed coffee and sizzling bacon…

What do all of these things have in common?

None of these things include checking off our to-do list, or increasing our income and refining our career. There are no business suits or board meetings. No deadlines or status checks.

I think what all these things have in common is: a joyful leisure. It is all of our senses being in the present moment. It’s the fragrances, laughter, connections, and tastes. It’s watching in quietness – or being surrounded by familiar voices and faces. It’s in the keeping of our traditions and special moments shared. It’s hugs.

    These memories are timeless!

What is one timeless thing that I can do today?

    Be well my friends!

Echinacea, or Purple Coneflower, is a genus of herbaceous flowering plants in the daisy family.

Echinacea has commonly been used for colds, respiratory infections, bronchitis, and for boosting the immune system.

    Tautogram

I saw this form of poetry on Borden’s Blather and thought I would try it. “Tauto” means “the same” and “gramma” means “letter”. In other words, all words in the poem begin with the same letter…

    ~

    Echinacea examines each enquiry

    Every exhale emits evidence

    Enters, explained emittance

    Expelling event emerges

    Efflorescent elixir

    Ensuing epidemic’s end

    The Story of Celery

    … so far

I started with my behind stuck in a bowl of water.

    Oh bother.

And then by George, I grew.

Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) – A Powerful Immune Booster

ALA is a vitamin-like chemical (naturally occurring fatty acid) known as an antioxidant. Antioxidants protect our cells from damaging free-radical cells which are caused by such things as environmental toxins, aging, inflammation and stress.

While our bodies naturally make a small amount of ALA – which helps turn glucose into energy (thereby helping with diabetes), it can also be found in vegetables such as spinach, asparagus, Brussels sprouts, beets, broccoli, peas, carrots, tomatoes, and in foods such as brewers yeast, potatoes, and organ meats like liver and kidney.

As we age, our bodies make less of this antioxidant, and so supplementing can be very beneficial. It is easily absorbed and is water soluble.

One of the most powerful antioxidants in our body is called glutathione and ALA helps boost this protective antioxidant as well.

    Some of the Benefits:

    • Helps to detoxify the liver
    • Helps with energy production
    • Lowers blood sugar
    • Treats nerve pain from diabetes
    • Boosts the immune system
    • Good for heart and brain function
    • Powerful antioxidant!
    • It works with your B, C, & E vitamins
    • Slows down aging
    • Boosts glutathione!
    • Helps with HIV
    • Helps with MS
    • Helps with weight loss
    • Helps with insulin resistance
    • Boosts T-cells
    • Inhibits Influenza and flu viruses
    • Helps with Neuropathy
    • Lowers blood pressure (when taken with L carnitine)
    • Anti inflammatory
    • Helps with retinopathy
    • Crosses the blood-brain barrier
    • Good for skin

    Jed

Hi, my name is Jed. I had to go into the hospital today to have a life-saving procedure done. I couldn’t stay home as others are doing. I got to the hospital, and there were very few people there. Everyone wore masks and gloves. Everything smelled like it had been wiped down with disinfectant. And I was grateful. Because, even though I couldn’t stay home, others are, which makes it safer for those of us who cannot, for whatever reason, do so. It protects medical staff who cannot stay home and it protects patients who need to be there.

I want to say, “Thank You!” to all the people out there who are working to protect themselves and others.

    Thank you,

    Jed
